What is Audible? And Why Do I Enjoy Audiobooks So Much?

Updated: Oct 19, 2023

When I was in school, I had a semester where I had a heavy reading load and I was slipping from my studies. Since I commuted, my drives were fairly long. The time that I was stuck in traffic could have been time for me to read my books for class. Don’t know why it hit me then when I was stuck in afternoon traffic but the idea to try audiobooks popped into my head. And you know what, I am absolutely obsessed with audiobooks now!

Let me share what I use. So I started an account with Audible, started the free trial, and used my credit to download a book for my class. I tried out the 14 day trial, listening to the book during my car rides, and a week into I fell in love.

I finished that book in record time! When I was driving, cleaning, eating, and walking, I played that audiobook until I finished it a few day after I started the trial. It was as if a weight had lifted off my shoulders. The simplicity of this solution solved my overwhelming semester. Without it, I probably would have turned into a puddled mess.

That’s what brings me here, to share with you all the full rundown on what Audible is and why I love it so much, and I think you would too.

So What is Audible…

Audible is an Amazon membership service designed for anyone. You can listen to the largest collection of audiobooks, podcasts, and even Audible Originals where you can experience exclusive content that only Audible has to share.

For anyone who wants to read but just can’t find the time to sit still will surely love the perks of Audible. I’m telling you, this was my secret weapon when I was in school. I popped in my head phones and did what I had to do while listening to my newest reads.

This is how it works

Audible rewards you 1 credit every month. That credit is good for 1 audiobook. Note: there are some content that will require more than just 1 credit, so always double check the credit total before checking out.

Once you found the audiobook you want to listen to, you can hit the yellow “Buy with 1 Credit” button. It will then ask you Confirm your purchase, and once you click that your credit is used and your audiobook is added to your library.

Head over to your library and you’ll find your audiobook in your list. Click it to download and in a few seconds your next listen is read to be played! It’s really that simple. You can play it from your phone, tablet, and laptop.

Sounds cool? You can sign up for your free trial here.

This is what is offered to you.

When you sign up for the Premium Plus membership, you are getting credit(s) good for any titles in the premium selection. So 1 credit for 1 book. You as a member will have access to Audible’s only members sales and discounts on all additional purchases. When you are a member, you can listen to all the thousands of content that includes audiobooks, podcasts, originals, and more in the Plus Catalog. Remember, your credits will expire after one year if you don’t use them; but I have a hopeful feeling that you will!

I have the Premium Plus membership and it’s been my best friend for a year now. So far, I have listened to eight books since I started my Audible adventures. My favorite read is by far The Stand-In by Lily Chu and performed by Phillipa Soo. I even wrote a review for it here:
